The SEIKO Prospex diving watch collection turns 55 in 2020. The very name of the series has long become a recognized quality mark all over the world, because it is not for nothing that it was composed in the words professional specifications. Half a century ago, the first diving watch from the SEIKO 6217-8001 (62MAS) line performed admirably on a Japanese research expedition to Antartica. The Japanese brand decided to mark the significant event with the release of three new Prospex models.
Each of the three anniversary novelties of SEIKO Prospex will be released in a limited edition of 1,100 pieces. All three are modern variations on the classic Prospex diving watches from the 1960s and 1970s. The 39.9mm steel SLA037 is a reimagining of the aforementioned 62MAS, and the 44.8mm SLA039 base is a 1968 Hi-Beat Diver. The largest model, the 52.4 mm SLA041, is based on the 1975 Professional Diver watch. The movements of all the anniversary novelties belong to the 8L family: the SLA037 / 39 is equipped with the 8L55 High Beat caliber, the SLA041 – the 8L35 automatic movement.
Seiko has introduced a completely new stainless steel grade, Ever-Brilliant Steel, to this collection, which complements the unique look of the watch with its white tint. In addition to its aesthetics, Ever-Brillant Steel is much more resistant to corrosion than previous alloys.
The water resistance of the models varies: SLA037 – 200 meters, SLA039 – 300 meters, SLA041 – 1000 meters.
